We Predict the Patriots vs Rams Super Bowl Winner Using Soulcalibur 6

The only accurate way to pick the Super Bowl.

This weekend marks Super Bowl LIII, the next entry in the annual advertising blitz surrounded by a championship football game. On February 3, two teams head to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to ram sweaty man bodies into each other and push the pigskin into big rectangles of turf. This year, the New England Patriots are back again, challenged by the Los Angeles Rams.

An average outlet would boot up this year's iteration of Madden to do a bit of simming and see who's going to win the big game. Here at USG, we turn to more scientific methods. I sat down with Soulcalibur 6, made up two create-a-characters for the Patriots' and Rams' mascots and had them fight it out for supremacy.

Pat Patriot uses the soul of Azwel, a new character for Soulcalibur 6 and the boss of the Libra of Soul story mode. Azwel has two weapons called Philosophy and Theory that he can summon from nowhere. I felt it was appropriate to use the scary powers of a boss fighter to represent the Patriots, who have won the Super Bowl five times out of eleven appearances.

Rams mascot Rampage is based off of the axe-wielding monster Astaroth. Astaroth is a golem forged to find the Soul Edge and kill anything in his path. I had to go with a demonic look to properly create Rampage in Soulcalibur 6, so the demonic fighting style of Astaroth felt like a good fit. (Nightmare was my other option, but that big axe/hammer just felt right.) The Rams are an old team with a new lease on life thanks to relatively new coach Sean McVay and equally fresh quarterback Jared Goff.

The fight between both characters required a total of five wins to clinch victory. I won't spoil the outcome, so check it out (the Pats totally lose... or do they?).

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
