Spelunky 2's PC Release Should Be "No Later Than a Few Weeks" After Its PS4 Launch

Derek Yu says it just needs some extra time to make sure it runs well.

Spelunky 2's PS4 release date was one of the bigger pieces of news coming out of Sony's most recent State of Play showcase, but it did leave PC players wondering when they'd have a shot at getting hopelessly lost in its depths. Now, Mossmouth founder Derek Yu's given an update to let PC spelunkers know that the sequel isn't far away for them, either.

For PS4, Spelunky 2 will launch on September 15, and its PC release—just via Steam, for now at least—will hopefully come "no later than a few weeks after" that, Yu promises on Twitter. "And just to clarify again, we are taking the extra time to make sure that Spelunky 2 runs well on PC," Yu says. "That includes testing online multiplayer, but it's not the only thing we'll be busy with."

After the new trailer went live last week, Yu shared additional details on Spelunky 2 over at the Official PlayStation Blog. Even though it looks like Adventure Mode's been greatly expanded, Yu says that it won't take too much more time to complete a successful run. The multiplayer offerings have also been built up as well.

Mossmouth has also updated Spelunky 2's Steam page to reflect its imminent release and to share a few new screenshots. Eagle-eyed Spelunky players may be able to pick out a few new details that set the sequel apart; personally, I'm not thrilled to see that cavemen have learned how to pick up items. Here's hoping they don't have terribly good aim.
