The First Boss Fight in Spider-Man: Miles Morales Sees Both Spideys Teaming Up

It looks like Miles and Peter are working together when an old foe makes a break for it.

With Marvel movie fans all abuzz about the possibility of seeing multiple live-action Spider-Man actors sharing the screen together, fans of Insomniac's 2018 game are just a few weeks away from playing its next chapter. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, set to launch on PS4 and PS5 alongside the new console's debut, will continue Insomniac's storyline: and yes, this apparently does mean we'll see Peter and Miles working together.

New footage released by Game Informer, which is running a month of exclusive Miles Morales coverage, confirms as much. Not only do we see Peter Parker all suited-up next to Miles, but a familiar villain then shows up as the game's first boss fight: Aleksei Sytsevich, a.k.a. Rhino.

Peter had his own run-in with Rhino back in the 2018 game, so seeing him reappear here at the start of Spider-Man: Miles Morales might give people some pause about how much new stuff we'll be seeing in this smaller campaign. All the same, this Rhino fight does look substantially different—Miles has unique abilities that Peter lacks, and at one point we even see him hop on Rhino's back and sort of steer him charging into a bank of electrical equipment, momentarily stunning Rhino and setting up Miles for a devastating punch.

It seems pretty safe to assume we won't be seeing that much of Peter or Rhino after the game's opening moments. A short prequel novel will cover the events between the 2018 Spider-Man and the beginning of the new game, which Insomniac promises will then see Morales "completing the hero's coming of age" arc that began with his scenes interspersed throughout the last title.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will launch for the PS4 and PS5 on Nov. 12. The regular editions of both versions will cost $49.99, while the PS5-only Ultimate Edition costs $69.99 and includes the exclusive remastered version of 2018's Spider-Man. That version of the game boasts new features like ray traced reflections and (somewhat controversially) a new look for Peter's face.
