Splatoon 2 Expansion Trailer Appears to Pay Tribute to Notorious BIG and Tupac

Splatoon 2 Expansion Trailer Appears to Pay Tribute to Notorious BIG and Tupac

Pearl and Marina have a certain look to them.

Today during its Direct presentation, Nintendo released a trailer for the first paid downloadable content for Splatoon 2, the Octo Expansion. In the teaser trailer, Splatoon 2 DJs Pearl and Marina appear with unique looks not present in the normal game. Some eagly eyed fans believe those looks a reference to a pair of famous musicians.

That's a good question. Is it just that Twitter user and the thousands that liked the post? Or did Nintendo mean to have Pearl and Marina call back to the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur? It'd be a very weird callback; Splatoon 2 has always been about pop culture, but rarely with specific references.

That said, it's rather timely on our shores, given that USA Networks is currently running Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. The show is a scripted crime series behind the unsolved murders of both men.
