If you're looking forward to Square Enix developed projects for the Nintendo Switch, you'll be happy to learn that the company established an entire division to developing games for the Switch.
The news comes by way of GameInformer which spoke with Square Enix division executive Tomoya Asano about the upcoming Octopath Traveler for the Switch. During the conversation Asano revealed that "Square Enix has decided that it wants to focus on original titles for the Switch," and that his Octopath team became its own division focusing on Switch games. "If Octopath Traveler does well and this is something that appeals to fans, we want to focus on Switch. Please pick up the Switch if you want to play games like Octopath Traveler."
Don't mistake this is one of those success equals more games ploy either. Asano clarified that "There are several other titles" Asano's division is working on for the Switch. "If you could wait a bit longer, we'll work with Nintendo and announce them in the future."
The Switch has proven to be a big hit for Nintendo. And while third-party support has been a typical problem for Nintendo consoles in the past, this seems to not be the case for the Switch. Third-party games from publishers like Ubisoft, Capcom, and EA have seemed to have done well on Nintendo's latest console.
Octopath Traveler is the latest JRPG from Square Enix and Acquire. We recently got a chance to try out Octopath Traveler and praised its hardcore, deep-cut JRPG roots. Octopath Traveler will be out on the Switch on July 13.
