Square Enix announced today a remastered version of Romancing SaGa 3. The remaster will be heading to PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android in Japan. Sadly, no release date or window was given for its domestic release, let alone a hopeful international one.
Romancing SaGa 3's remaster will attempt to keep the same visual style as the Super Famicom game, but offer updated graphics for character portraits, backgrounds, menus, and more. Square Enix is also reportedly working on improved controls.
This is the second Romancing SaGa game coming to PlayStation Vita and smartphones, as Square Enix has already released Romancing SaGa 2 on the same platforms in Japan. You can expect the SaGa 3 port to share similar upgrades. Unfortunately, the Vita port of Romancing SaGa 2 has not made it to the West alongside its smartphone counterparts, even in purely digital form. Series creator Akitoshi Kawazu announced a delay of the English version back in December.
"The English version of Romancing SaGa 2 on PSVita has some problems. We need a few more months. I ask for your patience, please," Kawazu said on Twitter.
Romancing SaGa 3 was originally released on Super Famicom back in 1995, but never headed stateside. The first SaGa we received in North America was SaGa Frontier for PlayStation.
