Square Enix's Mysterious Outriders Teaser Raises a Lot of Questions

Square Enix's Mysterious Outriders Teaser Raises a Lot of Questions

Square Enix reveals yet another new teaser.

Square Enix is teasing something else for its growing E3 press conference. Or are they?

We already know Square Enix is revealing its long-awaited Avengers game, but a new teaser for something called Outriders suggests it might not be the only Marvel project Square Enix is working on. Square Enix posted a GIF today showing a person awakening from cryogenic sleep. The text below the image reads, "Initialize Cryostasis wake-up procedure. See it first 06.10.10." This is the date of Square Enix's E3 2019 press conference.

At first glance the GIF looks to be teasing a new game Square Enix is working on aside from Avengers and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. But the Outriders name has a strong Marvel connection which makes the teaser even more mysterious.

In the Marvel Universe, the Outriders are an alien race who serve Thanos and the Black Order. You can see them in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as Thanos' legion of soldiers who attack the Avengers.

The fact that there is an Outriders teaser slated for the same day as Square Enix's Avengers reveal could suggest that the company is taking a multi-pronged approach to advertising its Avengers game, right?

Well, the Outriders Twitter account is separate from Square Enix's Avengers Twitter and it's possible that Square Enix's deal with Marvel includes multiple games. But the Outriders' strong connection to the Avengers universe makes it hard to determine the exact nature of this teaser.

Either way, Square Enix is laying down a lot of groundwork before its E3 2019 press conference. We already know Avengers and Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be there, but who knows what else?
