It might have leaked last week, but now we have our first official look at Star Wars: Squadrons. Developed by EA Motive Studios, the dog-fighting game has an original story set after Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars: Squadrons is set "when the Empire is in decline after the events of Return of the Jedi," a press release reads. This new, original story is being spearheaded by EA's Motive Studios, who you might recall were behind the original story of Iden Versio in Star Wars Battlefront 2 back in 2017.
But whereas Battlefront 2's excellent space-faring battles took place entirely from the third-person perspective, Squadrons takes place in first-person. The new game is a multiplayer game built around the core space battles, which is certainly welcome news if you enjoyed Battlefront 2's Starfighter Assault mode as much as I did.
At launch, Squadrons will feature VR support, for both the PC and PS4 versions of the game. Although there's only the trailer above to go on for Star Wars: Squadrons right now, there'll be a more extensive look at the game at EA Play on Thursday, June 18.
Star Wars: Squadrons will launch on October 2, and at the moment it's only planned to launch on current-gen consoles. So it'll be coming to PC (available on Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store), PS4, and Xbox One, and will feature cross-play support between all four platforms at launch.
