Starcraft Remastered Brings a Classic Into The 4K Era

Blizzard has gone back and given one of its best titles a facelift.

Over on the official Starcraft website, Blizzard Entertainment has taken the wraps off a cool surprise. The company announced Starcraft Remastered, which is a full UHD remaster of Starcraft and its expansion, StarCraft: Brood War.

"We've remastered our units, buildings, and environments, improved game audio, and broadened our supported resolutions. Illustrated interludes bring the struggles and victories of heroes like Artanis, Fenix, Tassadar, Raynor and Kerrigan to life like never before. Most importantly, the strategy gameplay that StarCraft perfected years ago remains unchanged," says Blizzard on the official website.

"StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard's DNA-its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it's been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years," added Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. "With StarCraft: Remastered, we're modernizing the original game's visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond."

Everything about the classic Starcraft gameplay has been preserved, but the game is presented in UHD with 4K support. Blizzard has also added new comic-book style interludes to tell the game's story in a new manner.

The developer also went back and re-recorded the soundtrack and original dialog. Matchmaking has been improved and Starcraft Remastered was updated to make full use of current Battle.net features. Blizzard also added cloud saving for the story campaigns, custom maps, and support for eight additional languages.

Starcraft Remastered is coming to PC and Mac this summer. Blizzard has yet to offer a price for the new game.

As an added bonus, the original Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War will be a free download! Blizzard will be updating the original and its expansion later this week, adding the ability to rebind keys, an observer mode, modern anti-cheat, and compatibility improvements for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
