The new Stardew Valley multiplayer feature lets up to four farmers hang out on the same patch of land. That's great: Many hands make light work. But whomever owns the farm is the "host," and what the host says, goes. When the host goes to sleep, for instance, everyone must sleep. It is law.
A new mod overrides Stardew Valley's lead farmer / dictator, however, and lets the guests do what they please. The mod, called "Always On Server," puts the host farmer into a science fiction-style coma. The guest farmers are then allowed to flit around and do as they please, when they please.
The mod's creator, "FunnySnek," admits there are some shortcomings on the mod's Nexus page. Time still passes for the comatose farmer, which means they can lose accumulated Friendship points if they're not gifting their friends and / or beau(s) regularly. Also, the host's computer still has to be on and they still need to be connected to the game for the "server" to work.
FunnySnek is working on solutions to the depleting Friendship point problem, as well as some other issues. There's a thread in the Stardew Valley subreddit outlining what Always On Server is capable of. Follow it for updates, and never forget to fight, fight, fight against enforced bedtimes.
