Starfield Has Competition With Obsidian's The Outer Worlds

Obsidian's long-awaited return to the world of triple-A looks like a big one.

Obsidian's newest RPG is The Outer Worlds, a colorful new RPG that looks equal parts Fallout and No Man's Sky. It's certainly the most ambitious project Obsidian has worked on in sometime.

The trailer shows off a first-person RPG that could be pulled directly from Bethesda's catalog. And it has all of Obsidian's trademark humor, with an older character winklingly asking about explosive cell death among other things.

It comes on the heels of Obsidian's big acquisition by Microsoft, but it looks like it will be on PS4 and PC as well as Xbox One. It's not Fallout New Vegas, but it's certainly the next best thing. Look out Starfield, you have competition now it seems.

Obsidian has mostly focused on smaller isometric RPGs of late, such as Pillars of Eternity. The Outer Worlds signals its return to the world of triple-A. It was previously teased in a series of tweets.

The Outer Worlds is currently set for a 2019 release on Xbox One. Suffice it to say, we're looking forward to it.
