NPD: State of Decay 2 is May 2018's Best-Selling Game, Even With Game Pass Launch

Even though it was offered through Game Pass, State of Decay 2 moved a lot of units.

The NPD sales numbers are out for May and surprise, State of Decay 2 was the top selling game of the month, beating out games like God of War and Detroit: Become Human.

State of Decay 2 was May's best-selling game and had launch sales double that of the first State of Decay. God of War and Detroit: Become Human were the second and third best-selling games of May. God of War is also the second best-selling game year to date, trailing only Far Cry 5.

State of Decay 2

State of Decay 2's success is even more impressive considering how it's the second Microsoft exclusive to launch on Xbox Game Pass where players can get access to first party Xbox exclusives on day one. Sea of Thieves developers Rare revealed that Sea of Thieves also sold well alongside its Games Pass launch, so perhaps the same is the case with State of Decay 2.

Nintendo Switch software also had the highest software revenue in May for any Nintendo platform since the Wii in May 2011. Remember though that NPD does not track digital sales for Nintendo platforms, meaning that software sales are likely higher considering the eShop's growth on the Switch.
