It didn't feel that long ago that State of Decay 2 was shambling its way onto both PC and Xbox One. In today's Xbox Series X games showcase, Microsoft announced the next game in the undead series: State of Decay 3.
State of Decay is, in case you're unaware, a zombie survival co-op game. You build and fortify bases in wasteland America, recruiting and helping survivors in need that you come across in any one of the different maps and scenarios featured.
As of right now, we actually don't have a lot of information to go on right now for State of Decay 3. All we saw was a very pretty CG trailer for the upcoming sequel from Undead Labs, with an unknown human stalking and aiming a crossbow at an undead elk. It looks like the sequel will be set at least partially in a snowy environment, if the reveal trailer is anything to go by.
Whereas State of Decay 2 launched as an Xbox exclusive game before coming to PC through Steam at a later date, State of Decay 3 will launch on both platforms. We don't know if State of Decay 3 will be cross-play at launch, like the last game in the series was between PC and Xbox One.
Right now, there isn't a firm release date for State of Decay 3. When it does launch though, it'll be coming to PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, part of Microsoft's pledge to ease the transition between the console generations by having games play on both current and next-gen Xbox platforms.
