Stranger Things Portals Are Popping Up In Fortnite

Hopefully no demogorgons came with them.

The new season of Stranger Things hits Netflix tomorrow, and it looks like Fortnite is getting in the spirit with some creepy portals. Quietly overnight, these windows into the Upside Down have cropped up in Fortnite with little explanation.

The portals seem to be located solely within the Mega Mall at the moment, with several reports of up to six portals cropping up on sites like Reddit. We tested it out, and walking through one teleports you from one area to another.

So while there's no magic portal into a deeper Upside Down world (yet), there does seem to be something afoot. Maybe this is a prelude to a special event? Or just a neat little nod to another moment in pop culture. Fortnite is certainly no stranger to topical tie-ins witihin the game's universe, though how far this rabbit hole goes remains to be seen.

Stranger Things' third season hits Netflix tomorrow, in the meantime, as a nice 4th of July distraction for those not heading out to lakes with boxes of fireworks. Set to release at the same time is a game based on the show's third season, which has the tricky task of being developed alongside a TV show. It looks to take some beat 'em up inspiration and include some light co-op puzzle solving, all in retro style. That's set to hit Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime tomorrow.
