Street Fighter 5 Goes Completely Free for Two Weeks

With Mortal Kombat 11 right around the corner, Capcom makes its fighter free.

The streets never forget a good rivalry. Netherrealm Studios is releasing Mortal Kombat 11 tomorrow on PC, Xbox One, Switch, and PlayStation 4, but that series' long time competitor is trying to entice players to its side. Starting on April 23 at 1pm PT/4pm ET, Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition is offering a free trial.

All of the launch content in Street Fighter 5 and its Arcade Edition are available to all players on PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam). That's all 16 original characters on the roster, with downloadable content characters Akuma, Blanka, Juri and Menat being offered up as well. The four additional characters will only be available in Ranked, Casual, Battle Lounge, Training, and Challenge modes for the duration of the trial.

For PlayStation 4 players, a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play online. Steam players have no requirements whatsoever. The free trial ends on both platforms on May 5 at 10am PT/1pm ET.

Street Fighter 5 stumbled at launch, but the game recovered and found its fighting groove with Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition. Since then, Capcom has stuffed the game with addition monetization in the form of classic Capcom costumes for every character. Many of those costumes will be on sale starting on April 23, including one bundle with Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, Ghosts 'n Goblins, and Darkstalkers-themed costumes for $19.99. The other two bundles offer a host of costumes for Ryu and Chun-Li for $14.99 each.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
