Street Fighter 5 Is Getting One More Season of New Content
Five fighters, three new arenas, one last hurrah.
40 fighters apparently wasn't enough for Capcom, so Street Fighter 5 is getting a fifth season to add a few more to the roster, along with some new stages. Capcom's also being pretty careful with the phrasing of its announcement; this will be the "final" season for Street Fighter 5.
So, while this means the recently released Champion Edition isn't quite the definitive Street Fighter 5 package, we know the end for this installment is nigh. The season will add five new characters and three new stages to the game. Beyond that, details are sparse; Capcom promises to share more information on the new content later this summer.
Between now and then, naturally, the Street Fighter community's going to guess at which characters are going to make the final five. Capcom could still decide to add some brand-new characters to the mix, but for what'll be Street Fighter 5's last big showing, you have to imagine there will be some favorites (c'mon Yun, you've got this) thrown into the mix.
Later this summer, fans will get to have a say on another bit of content coming to Street Fighter 5. Today, Capcom's kicking off a costume design contest, with winners to be selected via community vote in August. The two winning costumes will be added to Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, and the winning designers will each receive a special in-game title.
There's a good chance we'll hear more about Street Fighter 5's last batch of new content by way of the online event that will replace Evo 2020. This year's tournament in Las Vegas was canceled earlier this month due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but pairing some tournament streams with new announcements from Capcom—a regular occurrence at Evo events—could help keep some of the hype alive.
