Street Fighter Character Poll Led By Sakura, Makoto, Juri, and Q

Street Fighter Character Poll Led By Sakura, Makoto, Juri, and Q

A new character poll ends up with a very weird Top 10.

From October 23, 2017 to November 5, 2017, Capcom offered a Character Popularity Poll, featuring every character in the Street Fighter universe. Every character, from Ryu to Blade from the Street Fighter: The Movie game. Fans could vote on their favorites, allowing Capcom to show off who's on top for the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter.

With Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition launching today, Capcom has released the results of the poll. Here's the Top 10.

  1. Sakura Kasugano
  2. Makoto
  3. Juri
  4. Q
  5. Cody
  6. Chun-Li
  7. Sagat
  8. Akuma
  9. Ryu
  10. Blanka

I admit, I have questions. Sakura makes sense in the Top 5, but Karate Sakura taking the second spot? Q at #4 and Cody rounding out the Top 5? What madness is this? What sort of arcane, eldritch hell dimension have I fallen into?

When you extend the list into the Top 30, fan favorites and logical choices like Skullomania, Guy, Karin, Cammy, and Dudley start to appear. Here's the characters in the 11-20 slots:

  1. Cammy
  2. Poison
  3. Evil Ryu
  4. Dudley
  5. Ken
  6. Skullomania
  7. Dan Hibiki
  8. Karin Kanzuki
  9. Fei-Long
  10. Guy

In the Top 50, you see series mainstays like M. Bison, new fighters like Rashid and Laura, Captain Sawada from Street Fighter: The Movie, and the only Street Fighter 2 character not planned for Street Fighter V: E. Honda.

The lowest character in the list that's on Street Fighter V's roster is Birdie at #87, followed closely by Street Fighter VI's Rufus at #86, and Necalli at #85. Honestly, the trio feels like a sitcom in the making. In dead last is Khyber, a Street Fighter: The Movie character.

Now, some characters clearly got voted higher in the hopes that Capcom would include them in future Seasons for Street Fighter 5. But what have we wrought? Was the price worth it?

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
