At an EVO 2013 panel today, Capcom announced that five new fighters will be joining the Super Street Fighter IV roster. Four of the characters have been named: Elena, Rolento, Hugo, and Poison. Avid fighting game fans will recognize those four as characters from Capcom's Street Fighter x Tekken. With the models and movesets already done for those characters, it's probably easier to bring them over with just a bit of balancing on Capcom's part. The last character is an all-new fighter making their debut in the new version.
The new version will be offered as $15 downloadable content, with the five characters and six new stages for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The full package including the old and new content will be $39.99 at retail.
This will be the fifth version of the Street Fighter IV series, following Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition v. 2012. Capcom will announce the final name of the new version on Sunday, July 14, just before the EVO Super Street Fighter IV finals.
Prior to leaving Capcom for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale developer Superbot Entertainment, designer Seth Killian said that Arcade Edition was the last Street Fighter IV game.
"The plan is this is the end of Street Fighter IV," Killian told Eurogamer at Captivate in 2011. "Arcade Edition will be the end of Street Fighter IV. What comes next? We'll see. But we aren't planning any more Street Fighter IVs."
I guess plans change. I also guess that some people are glad they didn't pick up Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition yet.
Update: The final name of the new version has been revealed as Ultra Street Fighter IV. The announcement trailer is below.
