The first gameplay trailer for Streets of Rage 4 is out now and the action is looking quite cool. While there might not be any pixelized sprite artwork in Dotemu's modern sequel, there are streets filled with rage (i.e. fist fighting).
Streets of Rage 4 stars Axel and Blaze, two brawlers from previous games in the series with chips on their shoulders, roaming the streets looking to beat 'em up. In the gameplay trailer, you can see a new mechanic: the two fight together in tandem, juggling bad guys back-and-forth. Both are more than capable of splitting up to take out their respective bad guys though.
You can also see some of the enemies you'll face in Streets of Rage 4, and returning mechanics like picking up weapons and throwing them. Streets of Rage 4 is being developed by Lizardcube (Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap) and Streets of Fury developer Guard Crush Games. Dotemu, the publisher behind Wonder Boy and Windjammers, is also publishing Streets of Rage 4 with the official Sega license.
While retro lovers might miss the visuals of the classic Streets of Rage games, we have to admit it's been a long time since we' even've had a new Streets of Rage. The HD visuals, hand-drawn by Lizardcube, look pretty good I might add. And besides, we played an early version of Streets of Rage 4 and it's shaping up to be pretty good.
Streets of Rage 4 doesn't have a release date yet, but is scheduled for a PC and console release sometime in 2019. No word on a Switch release though, but we'll keep asking.
