Two more digital showcases are getting added to this summer's growing docket. Today, Summer Game Fest confirmed it will be partnering with Day of the Devs to highlight gameplay and announcements for upcoming games.
A number of studios and publishers have already been confirmed for the showcases, which will take place on June 22 and July 20. Despite this summer being a hotbed for major game announcements, Summer Game Fest producer Geoff Keighley says the showcases will be filled with updates from both independent and major publishers.
Keighley and the Day of the Devs team will be curating the showcases, and are opening submissions up for indie developers to have their game featured. The initial group of developers and publishers participating includes:
- Akupara Games
- Annapurna Interactive
- The Behemoth
- Kowloon Nights
- Longhand Electric
- MWM Interactive
- Sabotage Studio
- Skybound Games
- Tribute Games
- Ustwo Games
Despite the lack of E3 this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, there has been no slowdown in big game reveals planned for this summer. A number of publishers have been simply taking their shows online, presenting digital showcases instead of stage shows.
Hopefully Day of the Devs, Double Fine's indie-tastic showcase, handles the transition to streaming well. It's certainly nice to see that, amid all the big showcases for the likes of Ubisoft, EA, Sony, and Microsoft, the independent creators can also band together for some spotlight this summer too.
