As the opening salvo of today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo showed offer a trailer that looked like a port of Super Mario Maker for Switch. It was surprising to see a title card pop up calling the game Super Mario Maker 2. Yes, we've been waiting for Mario Maker on Switch for so long because Nintendo is working on a sequel.
The trailer showed off the new interface, given the move from the dual-screen Wii U and 3DS to the single-screen Switch. The trailer also showed off the new Super Mario 3D World theme, featuring the Cat Mario power-up. The company promised new features coming to Super Mario Maker 2, though it didn't detail what those feature were yet.
Super Mario Maker 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch some time in June 2019.
