Super Mario Odyssey Sells Nearly 500K in Japan At Launch, Pushes Switch to 126K

Media Create sales continue to point for a healthy picture for Nintendo.

We already know that Super Mario Odyssey sold 2 million copies in only 3 days, but now we're getting a picture as to the detail behind those numbers. Media Create numbers for the week of October 23, 2017 to October 29, 2017 have been released (translated via Reddit). For the week, Super Mario Odyssey sold 462,038 units, which is a great launch number. Likewise, its release pushed the Switch up to 126,701 systems sold for the week, up from 31,092 systems in the previous week. It's clear the Switch is still supply constrained in Japan, selling as many systems as Nintendo can release.

The top of the chart has been taken over largely by new releases outside of Super Mario Odyssey. The Japanese of release of ARK: Survival Evolved for PlayStation 4 did surprisingly well, landing at #2 with 70,177 copies sold. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux on 3DS took the next spot away from Assassin's Creed Origins on PS4, selling 60,848 copies to that game's 49,419. Those Origins sales are actually up for the franchise, given Assassin's Creed Syndicate's launch sales of 32,078 and Assassin's Creed Unity's launch sales of 36,400.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
