It's spring, which means it's time for a new round of baseball games. This year, that also means a new Super Mega Baseball 3, with full cross-play for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch this April.
Super Mega Baseball has been a more approachable baseball series, which lets you scale how difficult you want the game to be. It's also got arcade-style graphics, lots of bat-breaking, and lots of fun animations for moments like your pitcher getting absolutely annihilated.
There's no date set yet for Super Mega Baseball 3 outside of its April launch month window. According to a press release from developer Metalhead Software, a free demo and trial versions of the game will be released as well. These versions will let players compete in an "unlimited number of games" in the online Pennant Race mode, in order to promote "short matchmaking times and an active online userbase." No word on whether that version will launch alongside Super Mega Baseball 3 in April.
For the baseball savvy, Super Mega Baseball 3 will have a brand-new Franchise mode and a revamped user interface. There's also new team and character content, stadiums with variable lighting conditions, and a promise of no in-game purchases.
Add in full cross-play, and Super Mega Baseball 3 seems ready to slide into spring for the season's start. Its predecessor was already one of the better options for baseball on the Switch, and it will be a while until MLB The Show goes multiplatform. Here's to another season of home-run dingers and domed pitchers.
