Those aching for the crack of the bat to sound off a new season in Super Mega Baseball 3 will wait just a little while longer than expected. The latest baseball game from Metalhead Software has been pushed to May 13.
Originally set for an April 2020 window, Metalhead says in a statement that the industry-wide changes caused by COVID-19 have resulted in a revised release date. However, it's not too far away from its original expectation, and the developer says it's also started work on several free post-launch updates including a Team Import tool for Super Mega Baseball 2 players.
A new trailer also shows how fielding has changed in Super Mega Baseball 3, including adjustments to stealing bases and picking off runners who get a little ahead of themselves. Each player also has traits that come into play under specific conditions—an "RBI Man," for example, gets some bonuses when there's a base runner in scoring position.
And yes, it looks like players can still bean pitchers. While there's a slight delay in when Super Mega Baseball 3 arrives, it looks like it's building towards an interesting follow-up to the previous two games. In a world without real-life innings to play, some virtual baseball is always welcome, especially for those who don't have a PS4 to play MLB The Show 20 on.
Super Mega Baseball 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch on May 13, 2020. Free demo and trial versions are also expected to be on the way, which will let players compete in an unlimited number of games in the online Pennant Race mode.
