Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Character Could be From Yet Another Classic RPG

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Character Could be From Yet Another Classic RPG

Will Dragon Quest be the latest series confirmed for Smash?

A new datamine into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate seems to back up rumors that the next DLC character for the game is the hero from the Dragon Quest series.

Dataminer @KuroganeHammer uncovered some parameters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for fighters not yet in the game. These include listings for "fighter_kind_jack," "fighter_kind_brave," and "fighter_kind_packu." While these are all code names, internet detectives believe that "jack" refers to Joker on account of Atlus' mascot Jack Frost, and "packu" is widely understood to be the upcoming Piranha Plant.

This leaves the code name "brave" which for Dragon Quest fans is an obvious giveaway. The hero class characters in Dragon Quest games are called "Yuusha" in Japan which translates to, you guessed it, "brave."

The datamine supports an earlier rumor from December 2018 when Persona Central reported that a male and female version of the Dragon Quest hero will join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC fighters. The rumor originated from the Japanese message board 5channel.

That's not to say the new leaks shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt still. Super Smash Bros. "leaks" and rumors are a dime a dozen. Prior to the game's launch an unconfirmed rumor that suggested Shadow the Hedgehog, Geno, and Banjo-Kazooie would join the Smash roster nearly tore the Super Smash Bros. subreddit apart.

Nintendo announced a $25 Fighter Pass at last year's Game Awards which will include five additional DLC fighters. The first DLC fighter in the pass was revealed to be Joker from Persona 5. And given how all the fighters in Smash Bros. are from games that have appeared on Nintendo consoles, this led to speculation that a Persona 5 port for the Switch is also coming.
