Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Latest Patch Makes Some Shields a Whole Lot Bigger

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Latest Patch Makes Some Shields a Whole Lot Bigger

You get a shield. You get a shield. Everyone gets a shield!

Byleth might have been the headline addition in update 7.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but there were plenty of changes elsewhere to existing fighters. If you were hoping for an increase in shield size for any characters, your prayers have been answered.

The handy graph from @PopiSSB on Twitter highlights the major changes in the update, which is available to download now. Characters getting an increased shield size include Donkey Kong, Link, Dark Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Pikachu, Captain Falcon, Bowser, Ice Climbers, and more. Basically, a lot of fighters just got a bigger shield, perhaps perfect for combating Byleth.

Joker, or rather Arsene, got a big nerf in the new update. The amount of time Arsene sticks around for when summoned has been reduced, and the range of Joker's gun when shooting down while airborne has also been decreased. It's a sad day for my Persona boy.

On the flip side, Samus and Dark Samus are two fighers that got a pretty big buff in the update. The launch distance for both of their Up Smash Attacks have been increased, and the power of both their midair grabs have also been buffed. Both Samus and Dark Samus are now going to be even more annoying to deal with.

While Byleth is exclusive to Figher Pass owners in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, anyone can download update 7.0 for the changes detailed above. We're just getting to grips with Byleth ourselves, but the character so far feels slower and more deliberate than the vast majority of other sword-wielding characters in the game.
