Tales of Arise Has Been Indefinitely Delayed

The series reinvention has been moved out of 2020.

Several games targeting a launch this year have shifted release dates due to shifts in production, and the Tales Of series is joining that list. Tales of Arise has been delayed for an undetermined amount of time.

Set to be the next game in the Tales Of series of games, Tales of Arise was scheduled for a 2020 launch. However, in a blog post today, Bandai Namco says it will take a little more time to get where it wants to be with Arise.

"While COVID-19 has affected some aspects of development, we've done our best to adapt to the situation and have implemented remote development capabilities for our team." said the studio. "However, we will need more time to achieve the quality and provide the gorgeous experience we envision for our players, and therefore we decided to delay the launch timing for Tales of Arise."

No new release date has been set, though it has moved out of 2020. Bandai Namco says it will announce a launch window once it has more details to share.

This is certainly a bummer, but not entirely unexpected. Tales of Arise has been conspicuously absent since last year, and the shift to remote production likely ate some time. If Arise is really looking to shift things up for the Tales Of series, then it's better to take some extra time and make sure it's as fully realized as possible. Pushing it out past this year also raises the question of whether next-gen is in the picture now.

Hopefully the extra time results in a fresh take on the RPG series. For more on how Bandai Namco is looking to reinvent things with Tales of Arise, check out our interview with the series producer from E3 2019.
