Team17 Unearths More Worms for 2020

The series hasn't taken a direct hit yet.

It's been four years since we've seen the Worms. The classic turn-based combat franchise saw its last full release in 2016's Worms W.M.D. Other than a Nintendo Switch port of that title in 2017, the series has been waiting, biding its time to strike.

The wait, if you have been waiting, is over. In a tweet from the official Team17 Twitter, the publisher announced a new Worms game for 2020. The tweet touts "New Worms, new ways to play," but there are no further details.

Fans are divided on the style of Worms they want. There's the original 2D iteration of the franchise, or the 3D version popularized by Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem. There's also an open question whether Team17 will redesign the Worms again, like it did with Worms W.M.D, or if the numerous guest costumes from that entry will make a return. W.M.D. had outfits based on The Escapists, Payday, Minecraft, Yooka and Laylee, and Killer Instinct.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
