Team Ninja Calls It Quits on Dead or Alive 5, Looks to Future of Series
Five years later, Team Ninja is finally moving on from Dead of Alive 5.
In a video released at the end of the Dead or Alive 5 Battle Royal 2017 Grand Finals event at the NEC 18 tournament, Team Ninja has finally ceased development on Dead or Alive 5. Dead or Alive 5 originally launched in September 2012, followed by Dead or Alive 5 Plus, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, and finally Dead or Alive 5: Last Round in 2015. Now the team is moving onto something else.
"Dead or Alive 5 has finally come to an end, but the Dead or Alive team is very active. Looking forward, I hope you’ll continue to support Dead or Alive," saud Team Ninja Brand Manager Yosuke Hayashi.
"We created so much downloadable content that the sheer amount would be worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records," said DOA 5 Director Yohei Shimbori. "However, it is time to stop what we are doing for now and look into the future, which means we may not be around for some time… but we are very much looking forward to seeing you again someday. And I hope you will maintain your love for Dead or Alive and keep on fighting!"
Shimbori isn't joking. Dead or Alive 5 has one of the biggest collections of add-ons on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam. It saw its last downloadable content on August of this year. As part of the announcement above, Team Ninja is releasing an additional DLC pack for the 5th anniversary.
