Telltale's Batman Gets a Noir Makeover For Shadows Edition

Telltale's Batman Gets a Noir Makeover For Shadows Edition

Bats is back with a brand new look.

Earlier this year, Athlon Games partnered with the new Telltale Games to recover some of the properties lost in Telltale's back catalog, including The Wolf Among Us and Batman series. Today, we're seeing the first of that partnership with The Telltale Batman Shadows Edition, a revision of the original Telltale Batman series.

Announced on Athlon's site today, the Shadows Edition contains both Batman: The Telltale Series and new DLC on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, Epic Game Store and Nintendo Switch as a $30 package out today. The "Shadows Mode" DLC is also available as standalone DLC for owners of the Telltale Batman series.

The Shadows Mode brings a noir-style visual makeover and graphical upgrade to the two seasons of Telltale's Batman, though no images have been shown of the visual options yet. Presumably this is a new visual option and doesn't add any story content. The press release is dated for Dec. 5 and has no images, and listings haven't gone live yet as of this writing.

After Telltale Games laid off most of its staff and filed for bankruptcy last year, LCG Entertainment purchased some of its back catalog and founded a new Telltale under heads Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle. At the time, Ottilie said "some" of Telltale's original staff would be offered freelance roles, with full-time positions "possible" in the future.

"This is just the beginning in a much more expansive plan to build on our catalog of Telltale Games titles, which we hope to discuss in further detail in the coming months," Ottilie says in today's Athlon blog.

It's nice to see some of these excellent Telltale Games get a breath of new life, but it's unclear as to whether the developers who worked hard to make them happen are seeing any benefit from this updated version. As we see more Telltale plans in the coming months, they'll hopefully include the people who made these games special.
