The fancy new gameplay trailer for Doom Eternal debuted yesterday, showing the Doomslayer ripping and tearing through hordes of demons, as is his job. What's got the community around the game pretty excited is the reveal of the Doomguy's face for the first time since id Software rebooted the franchise in 2016.
You can see the full trailer just below, which is our best look yet at gameplay for Doom Eternal. At the 45 second mark in the trailer, you can briefly see the Doomslayer putting on his classic helmet, but not before you catch a glimpse of his head from a sideways angle.
The Doom Eternal community is pretty excited about this reveal, largely because in the 2016 reimagining of Doom, you never saw the Doomslayer's face or head at all. The new Doomguy does bear a pretty striking resemblance to the Doom Marine of Doom 3, as the community has noted.
There's also the case to be made that it's more a design based around the traditional Doom Marine from the OG Doom games. Doom Eternal's Doomslayer certainly does look like the bottom right face.
Elsewhere, some have noted that his eyes are incredibly far apart in the new design, not unlike the design of Tom Holland's Spider-Man suit. Maybe the new Doomslayer is just part hammerhead shark.
Whatever the Doomslayer may or may not look like, Doom Eternal looks fantastic. After being delayed out of 2019, id Software's sequel will release on March 20 (yes, the same day as Animal Crossing: New Horizons), for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
