During The Game Awards last year, Zenimax Online revealed that the next chapter of the Elder Scrolls Online story would be head to Skyrim. The region sits in the frozen north of Tamriel, and stands as the ancestral home of the Nord. Most will recognize is as the setting for the best-selling The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
Today, during an event at the HyperX Arena Las Vegas, Zenimax Online announced the full details about the future of Elder Scrolls Online. The next expansion will be The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor, arriving for PC and Mac on May 18, 2020, with consoles joining in on June 2.
Set more than 900 years prior to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Greymoor sees our heroes heading to Western Skyrim. You'll journey across the frozen mountain peaks, the city of Solitude, and the massive underground region of Blackreach. The Greymoor chapter is being touted as one of the darkest Elder Scrolls stories yet, as it focuses heavily around a particular undead enemy: the vampire. An ancient vampire lord threatens the region, leading an army of his kin and other monsters like werewolves and witches. Standing against them will be Lyris Titanborn and House Ravenwatch.
Greymoor will feature a 30-hour story experience, alongside a new 12-player trial called Kyne's Aegis. Dark Anchors return in the form of open-world group events called Harrowstorms where the vampire menace will descend upon the land, needing to be pushed back. There's also a new Antiquities system, where players will travel across Tamriel as a whole to find lost artifacts that unlock new gear and other bonuses. And as with previous Chapters like Morrowind, Summerset, and Elsweyr, new players can jump right into all the new Greymoor content with an updated tutorial and starting area.
Greymoor is only one part of a larger story, though. Last year's interconnected adventure was the Year of the Dragon, but this year, the overall tale is called the Dark Heart of Skyrim. It begins with the first quarter release of the Harrowstorm DLC dungeon pack. In the first dungeon in the pack, Icereach, players will look into the mysterious storms haunting the Sea of Ghosts. The second dungeon is called Unhallowed Grave, an ancient burial site that's been disturbed and dug up. Both dungeons will launch alongside a prologue quest that will set the stage for Greymoor.
Like last year, the content drops will be quarterly releases. Following the release of Harrowstorm in the first quarter, Greymoor will launch in the second quarter of 2020. The Dark Heart of Skyrim will then continue with a DLC dungeon pack in the third quarter, and another story zone in the fourth quarter. While the latter releases have not been dated, players will be able to enjoy The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor on PC and Mac on May 18, 2020, with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release coming on June 2, 2020. You can pre-purchase Greymoor on PC, Mac, and Xbox One right now.
In addition, the Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor will also be coming to Google Stadia. Zenimax Online did not offer any further details.
