Hello Games may be known most for No Man's Sky, but the studio's next game is a smaller affair by comparison. You'll be able to see it for yourself soon, too—The Last Campfire, Hello Games' latest, is surprise dropping tomorrow.
Announced today and detailed in the PlayStation Blog, The Last Campfire will launch tomorrow, Aug. 27. It'll be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Apple Arcade, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
The Last Campfire looks to be an interesting little adventure, where the player explores and solves puzzles to find a way home. Given the pedigree, it could be an interesting venture for the studio. While Hello Games is known for its massive No Man's Sky, the two developers who helmed The Last Campfire—Steven Burgess and Chris Symonds—worked together on Frontier Developments' LostWinds for the Nintendo Wii.
Hopefully some of that LostWinds charm carries through into The Last Campfire. This new game is also Epic exclusive for PC, so you'll have to use that launcher to check it out.
Meanwhile, No Man's Sky has been making big strides. Alongside adding new tools like the Exo Mech Suit, the open-ended space exploration sim also recently secured full crossplay across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The Last Campfire, meanwhile, is a "more intimate adventure" rather than a sweeping space epic. A 2018 blog post likened The Last Campfire to a Pixar animated short, and honestly, thta sounds great. I'm looking forward to seeing what some of the developers at this studio can cook up within a small, shortform narrative experience.
