Joel is the main protagonist in 2013's The Last of Us. He returns in The Last of Us Part 2, but pre-release marketing was notably careful when showing his involvement. Given just how bleak this series can be many are wondering which main characters, if any, make it out alive in the new game. In this guide we'll answer the question of whether Joel dies, so consider this your final spoiler warning.
Does Joel Die in The Last of Part 2?
Joel is killed at the beginning of The Last of Us Part 2. You play a very short segment as Joel, before control is handed over to Ellie. Eventually, you find that Joel and Tommy have been taken by members of the WLF (Washington Liberation Front), and after being caught yourself, watch Joel being beaten to death. Troy Baker reprises his role as Joel, head here to see who voices the other main characters.
Who Kills Joel?
A member of the WLF called Abby kills Joel. She is the daughter of a surgeon killed by Joel during the hospital escape in the first game. You actually go on to play almost half of the game as Abby, as she contends with Ellie and her quest for revenge.
