The Last of Us Part 2 Gets a February 2020 Release Date

The wait is nearly over.

It's been a long time since we've seen The Last of Us Part 2 in motion, but the new footage from Sony's State of Play presentation is our best look yet—and best of all, it gives us a release date. Naughty Dog's sequel is coming to the PlayStation 4 on February 21, 2020.

The new trailer begins with Ellie and Dina, the stars of The Last of Us Part 2's memorable E3 2018 trailer. Immediately, you'll notice horse riding is still the preferred way to get around in the post-apocalypse of The Last of Us. It starts to look like Dina is the NPC sidekick game director Neil Druckmann alluded to in a 2018 interview. Then things go awry.

From the game's debut trailer in 2016, we've known we're picking up with Ellie and Joel's story years after the events of The Last of Us, with Ellie setting off to get revenge on a mysterious group of antagonists. Finally, we get a good look at a wizened Joel, and it seems like this around he might be Ellie's sidekick. Ellie, Joel, and the people they're hunting will all have to watch out for the Infected, the Cordyceps-afflicted monstrosities still lurking throughout the ruins of pre-outbreak civilization.

Sony also used the State of Play to announce that The Last of Us: Remastered will be a free PlayStation Plus game this October.
