The Last of Us Voted Best Game of the Decade in New Fan Polls

Metacritic users and PlayStation blog readers are all about giraffes.

As we creep into a brand-new decade and towards the release of The Last of Us Part 2, Naughty Dog's first trip through Cordyceps-ravaged America is picking up player accolades over six years after release.

Both Metacritic and the Official PlayStation Blog polled visitors on their favorite games of the decade, and The Last of Us took the top spots on both sites. You might not be surprised to hear that a number of first-party exclusives ranked high on the PlayStation list, but Naughty Dog's opus faced stiff competition at Metacritic where it managed to best runners-up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Across both polls, The Last of Us was joined by a few other strong GOTD contenders that debuted on the previous generation of consoles: Dark Souls, Skyrim, Mass Effect 2, and fellow late-generation heavyweight Grand Theft Auto 5.

Here are the top ten from both Metacritic and the PlayStation Blog:

  1. The Last of Us
  2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  4. Red Dead Redemption 2
  5. Mass Effect 2
  6. Bloodborne
  7. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
  8. God of War
  9. Grand Theft Auto 5
  10. Dark Souls

The Official PlayStation Blog

  1. The Last of Us
  2. God of War
  3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  4. Grand Theft Auto 5
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2
  6. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
  7. Horizon Zero Dawn
  8. Bloodborne
  9. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
  10. Marvel's Spider-Man

The Last of Us Part 2 is set to release in May 2020, following a surprising delay announcement that pushed the game back from a February launch. Though its lauded single-player campaign is likely what pushed The Last of Us to the top of these polls, fans may be disappointed to hear that its unique Factions multiplayer mode won't be returning for the sequel.
