The Last Remnant is getting remastered again, but this time for the Nintendo Switch, and it's out tonight. Square Enix made the surprise announcement at its E3 2019 press conference today, promising a third chance for its somewhat liked RPG series.
The Last Remnant was first released in 2008 for the Xbox 360 and it was meant to kick off a new RPG series at Square Enix. Unfortunately, reception to the 360 version was mixed, and it wasn't until a PC version that released a year later that players began to wonder if The Last Remnant was underappreciated.
Last year Square Enix announced that The Last Remnant was leaving Steam permanently, but that's because a remastered version was coming to the PS4. Now, the same remaster is headed for the Switch, and it's available sometime tonight.
The Last Remnant was originally developed on Unreal Engine 3, the first time Square Enix used the engine. But for the Remaster, Square Enix went and used an updated game engine.
