The Outer Worlds Gets a Nintendo Switch Launch Date, But Won't Have a Cartridge

The RPG launches March 6 on Switch.

The Outer Worlds launched in October 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and although it'll be launching for the Nintendo Switch on March 6, it won't be arriving on a cartridge. Despite the fact that you'll be able to purchase Obsidian's RPG in a Nintendo Switch game case from a retailer, it'll come with a download code for the game instead of a cartridge.

You can see the official box art for The Outer Worlds on the Nintendo Switch to the right. As stated on the front cover, you'll need to redeem and activate the download code found within the box in order to obtain your copy of the game, and then download it straight from the e-Shop.

In other words, we hope you've got a good internet connection at home. Full games for the Nintendo Switch games take infamously long to download straight from the e-Shop, so it's not hard to imagine The Outer Worlds taking a good chunk of time to fully download.

Interestingly, publisher Private Division hasn't stated how large the download for The Outer Worlds will be on the Nintendo Switch. However it's only natural to assume that the download will be greater than 32GB, given that's currently the maximum size of game cartridges available for the Nintendo Switch.

We've got a ton of guides to help you through the space-faring RPG adventure from Obsidian. You can head over to our complete Outer Worlds companions guide, or our Outer Worlds Power Plant choice guides for help on major areas of the game.

Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. See our terms & conditions.
