The Outstanding Metroidvania Chasm is Now Available on Nintendo Switch

Don't look down.

News by Matt Kim, .

Chasm a long in-development title that finally saw the light of day earlier this year, is available now on the Nintendo Switch. You can see the launch trailer below.

Chasm is a Metroidvania from developer Bit Kid that takes the genre and infuses influences from games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, and Mega Man.

Chasm was in development for six years before finally coming out in July of this year. We rated Chasm a four out of five for its stellar take on the Metroidvania genre.

Bit Kid boasts over 130 weapons and armor and 10-15 hours of gameplay to make it through the full campaign. Chasm is available now on Switch, Steam, PS4, and PS Vita for $19.99 USD.

I know USGamer rated it highly, but given the very mixed reception among reviewers in general, it was jarring to see Chasm deemed "outstanding" in the headline like that (and nary a mention of the varying reviews in the story itself).

Loved my time with Chasm on Vita, will definitely get on Switch once that d-pad joycon controller arrives.

This game is very good, I really enjoyed it on PS4. I can't speak to what people were expecting since I didn't know anything about it until I picked it up. I'm vaguely aware that some people didn't like it, based on the interview with the developer on Retronauts a while back. But

It's a very straightforward Metroidvania-style game, but it stands out to me... it's a polished, charming little game. And switch seems like the perfect platform for it.

@heaterhands Yeah I know what you mean. My impression of the game has been fairly negative, and that seems to gel with most of the people I see that try to play it.
