The Surge 2 is Coming in 2019

Deck13's sci-fi Soulslike is getting a sequel.

The official Facebook account for The Surge announced today that The Surge 2 is coming in 2019 for consoles and PC. All we have is a single image to on, but it looks like the second game leaves behind a lonely factory region for a desolate city. That's all we got so far.

"The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic, limb-targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula," says the press release. "The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses."

The Surge was Deck13 Interactive's second shot at a game like Dark Souls, following Lords of the Fallen. Instead of a fantasy-themed romp, The Surge took place in the far future, with one man in an exoskeleton shredding mechanical hordes. It ended up getting reviewed better than Deck13's first outing.

"The Surge gives a lousy first impression with it bland sci-fi setting and grab bag of obvious influences. Given time, though, there’s an unrefined gem in here for those willing to put up with its quirks. If this is Deck 13’s next step to building something truly great, it’s a solid, if flawed one," said freelancer John Learned in our review of the game.

According to a press release, more information will be revealed on February 7 - 8 at Focus' annaul Paris press event.
