The Upcoming Bubsy Game You Forgot Existed Has a Kickstarter for DLC

All pledges are welcome, whether genuine or ironic.

A new Bubsy game sub-titled "Paws on Fire" is coming to PlayStation 4, Switch, and Steam in April. The game's developer, Choice Provisions (creators of the Bit.Trip series), is running a Kickstarter campaign to fund DLC and it's already well on its way to hitting its $25,000 USD goal. Do you think God stays in Heaven because he lives in fear of his creation?

Paws on Fire was announced in October of last year, though you can't be blamed for forgetting (or never hearing about the game in the first place). It's a follow-up to 2017's Bubsy-centric platformer, The Woolies Strike Back, which currently enjoys an aggregated score of 45 out of 100 on Metacritic. That score's comprised of eight mixed reviews and 12 negative reviews, by the way. There isn't a single positive review to be found, save for the user reviews which score The Woolies Strike Back with a 10 out of 10 and thank Bethesda for "a solid entry into the Roblox franchise."

Snark aside, Choice Provisions is in charge of Paws on Fire, whereas Black Forest Games handled Woolies Strike Back. Given Choice Provisions' excellent pedigree, maybe we'll see a decent game this time out. What could possibly go wrong?

[Pinches bridge of nose] All right, so, if you plan on supporting the Paws on Fire DLC Kickstarter because you harbor a genuine, pure love for Bubsy, or you think the bobcat (who is not a bobcat, by the way) is the greatest meme created since those three Budweiser guys screamed "Wasuuuuuup!" at each other, here's what you can expect. A mere $2 pledge lands you a copy of Bubsy Two-Fur, which contains the remakes of Bubsy and Bubsy 2. If you're seriously invested in this venture, though, you're going to want to contribute to the $20 tier, which nets you a discounted copy of Paws on Fire when it comes out (and the free DLC that should come with it in late summer, provided the Kickstarter is successful).

The planned DLC includes new levels, new playable characters (including Bit.Trip's Commander Video), and a physical PlayStation 4 release. Some of this DLC will only come into fruition of certain stretch goals are met. The initial $25,000 goal will supply Paws on Fire with new costumes for Bubsy, and, get this, "more Bubsy in-game chatter." Aight.

At the time of this writing, the DLC Kickstarter for Bubsy: Paws on Fire is at $6,446 of its $25,000 goal. You know what? Sure. Go for it, Bubsy fans. I don't understand your love, but I'm prepared to accept it. The world's a mess right now and I don't have the emotional energy to wage a pointless war with you all.
