The Walking Dead Season 3 Premieres With Two Episodes on Dec 20

Telltale's Walking Dead continues with a new frontier.

Tonight at the Game Awards, Telltale Games announced that The Walking Dead's third season will be A New Frontier, starting on December 20. Like seasons one and two, the third season will feature a new lead protagonist, a young Hispanic man named Javier. The series will begin during the initial zombie outbreak, showing how Javier's family was torn apart, before jumping forward a few years.

Telltale's synopsis for A New Frontier:

"When family is all you have left... how far will you go to protect it? Years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to protect his family, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last."

This season will start with two episodes instead of one. The dual-episode opener will be "The Ties That Bind", launching on December 20 digitally on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android. Release dates for other platforms will be announced at a later date.

The series has progressed far enough that Telltale realizes that some players have switched platforms. For The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, the series adds new ways to carry forward decisions from the previous seasons, which sounds like there will be save game creator of sorts.

"Players new to the series will be able to start a story that is tailored to this new beginning," explained Telltale. "Players continuing onward from prior seasons will have multiple options for quickly configuring their tailored backstory, or importing past save files from various platforms. Additional information on this feature will be detailed in the coming week."
