The Witcher 3 is coming to next-gen consoles next year. CD Projekt Red announced earlier today that Geralt's final adventure would be getting an overhauled re-release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The new version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS5 and Xbox Series X will be free for all those who own it on current-gen systems. So if you've got it on the PS4 or Xbox One, you'll get a free upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X if you purchase the next console from Sony or Microsoft.
The next-gen version of the Witcher 3 will have a bunch of technical improvements, including faster load times and ray tracing, according to CD Projekt's official announcement. These improvements will take effect across the base game, as well as both DLC expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Currently, there isn't a release date for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It's not mentioned in the press release, but a 2021 release window was mentioned by CD Projekt PR lead Radek Grabowski on Twitter shortly after the initial announcement.
So, CD Projekt actually has two games coming to next-gen systems in the near future. Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on day one for both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, while it looks like The Witcher 3 will be released the year after. Any excuse to play Geralt's fantastic final adventure again.
