It seems like The World Ends With You still has more news in store for the year. A new teaser site has opened today, with a seven-day time limit and music that all point to something new for the world of The World Ends With You.
A link to the new site was tweeted out by Square Enix's 1st Production Twitter account, which also has its logo set to one of the pins from The World Ends With You. As for what kind of project this might be, that's currently unclear; at the moment we just have a countdown to seven days from the site's earlier this morning, and some really sick background music.
Earlier this year, another The World Ends With You teaser resulted in the reveal of an anime series based on the Nintendo DS RPG. With a resurgence of interest via the anime and the 2018 Nintendo Switch port, hopes are certainly high that Square Enix could be returning to this world for some kind of follow-up.
If you're unfamiliar, The World Ends With You is a standalone RPG released on the Nintendo DS in North America in 2008. Its stylish look, killer soundtrack, and unique battle system all merged together to create something completely unlike any other RPG out there, slowly becoming a mythical RPG classic lost to time.
As someone who's hailed The World Ends With You as one of his favorite games since first playing it back on the Nintendo DS, I'm certainly interested in whatever Square Enix is working on. Square Enix has been brushing with the idea of a more substantial return to the afterlife death-game world of The World Ends With You for a while, and it has more than earned another shot. I'm also not getting my hopes too high, because this isn't the first countdown tease we've been through. I suppose we'll know more in one week. After all, what could honor the legacy of The World Ends With You better than an ominous countdown timer?
