There's Some 200 Animal Species in Red Dead Redemption 2, All of Which Can Probably Kill You

Watch out for sturgeons, man.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is about a month away, and if the previews are anything to go by Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to be massive. There're territories to explore, and animals to hunt and today Rockstar detailed some of the various wildlife populating the old west.

According to Rockstar Red Dead Redemption has around 200 species of animals, birds, and fish which all behave uniquely and apropos to their environment. There's the standard fare like coyotes, deer, eagles, and horses. But there are some strange creatures out there like the Lake Sturgeon and "Heloderma Suspectum Cinctum" or, The Banded Gila Monster.

Knowing Red Dead Redemption 2's level of realism, all of these animals can probably kill you. Even the Sturgeon. You'll need to learn how to kill them back however as hunting wild fish and game is part of survival in Red Dead Redemption 2.

You'll need to be specific with how you hunt each animal, down to picking the right gauge rifle for the animal you're after. You can either sell the game you hunt, feed your camp with them, or cook up something nice for yourself. Oh, there's also a fishing aspect to Red Dead Redemption 2.

In addition to the wildlife there are 19 breeds of horses in Red Dead Redemption 2, and 59 different style of coats making each horse unique. You'll have to bond with them successfully if you want to unlock your horse's true potential.

The first previews for Red Dead Redemption 2 dropped last week and we've dug in to get a sense of some of the most interesting details from Red Dead Redemption 2, while asking some remaining questions. Hopefully we'll get some more answers before Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to PS4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
