These Fire Emblem: Three Houses Characters Are Surprisingly Popular Among Japanese Fans

Somehow it isn't Claude or Edelgard.

The new Fire Emblem is just around the corner, and hearts are ablaze. We want to know who we can recruit, train, and send into combat. But Three Houses players are also interested in the characters themselves, whether as compatriots or as potential love interests.

One Twitter user has been analyzing each character's popularity in Japanese Twitter circles, using Likes and RTs as a metric, and the results are somewhat surprising. While a voluntary, professed leaning towards one character might be a decent metric, the subconscious Likes and RTs speak truth from the heart. Here's who rises to the top, via our own translation of the charts.

The most popular overall character is, surprisingly, not a student but an instructor. The Lance and Bow instructor Shamir led the pack. A former mercenary who joins the Knights of Seiros to pay a debt, she is certainly an unexpected frontrunner.

For the students, the Golden Deers' Marianne is the frontrunner, while Sylvain is the most popular guy. And in maybe the only unsurprising result, Caspar is the least popular. To be fair, it's hard to stand out in the same house as Edelgard, Petra, and Dorothea.

Our early impressions of Fire Emblem: Three Houses are fairly positive. While the maps aren't as challenging as you might hope with the weapon triangle gone, the story seems to be a standout. And there are romance options for everyone, though hopefully there's a good variety of them as well. We'll have more on Fire Emblem: Three Houses closer to its release date of July 26 on the Nintendo Switch.
