Among the many famous faces of Death Stranding, it seems one late-night host managed to find his way out to the Kojima Productions offices and get face-scanned into the game as well. Conan O'Brien revealed his cameo in Death Stranding during his show last night, as well as his visit to Kojima's Tokyo HQ.
O'Brien says he was invited to visit Kojima and his studio's offices via his "connections in the gaming industry," which got some laughs. But even if you're looking to avoid Death Stranding spoilers-which the video largely does-it's pretty incredible to see a firsthand account of visiting Kojima Productions. The entrance and hallway with Kojima's astronaut mascot is kind of wild to actually see.
After a few gags about Kojima's secrecy over Death Stranding and his love for Ultraman figures, the creator sits O'Brien down with a few trailers for Death Stranding to give the comedian an idea of what the game is about. When asked about Norman Reedus, who plays Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding, Kojima comments that Reedus asked him to make Sam appear "more muscular." I mean, who wouldn't?
And then we see O'Brien face-scanned and integrated into the game, with voiceover, as a character in Death Stranding. We won't spoil anything about when, where, or how this cameo will actually occur, but it's a neat little surprise. He's apparently partnered with a cosplayer and gives you an otter-themed suit upgrade, which makes dealing with rivers and water a bit easier.
Conan O'Brien appears as a prepper "The Wondering MC" in DS. You get "Sea Otter Suit" when you get connected with him. With this suit, you'll be able to swim easily in the river, you won't be drifted away! BB would be happy as well. pic.twitter.com/nIsw5JS5t0- HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) October 24, 2019
We'll have more about Death Stranding as we get closer to its release date on November 8 for PlayStation 4. I am happy to say, however, that this confirms at least one of my guesses about who would appear in Death Stranding. I'm now devoting my in-game time to figuring out if Masahiro Sakurai is in there somewhere.
