The Wii U's Fire Emblem / Shin Megami Tensei crossover Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is coming to Nintendo Switch in a few months, and today we got some new details about what that entails. Alongside new music and costumes, a new dungeon and some new battle combatants will take the stage for this encore.
New info from a recent Famitsu weekly (via Persona Central) detail the new elements forthcoming. On the list is a new adventure for the Fortuna Entertainment team, as well as an additional dungeon, new costumes, and some new party members. It's unclear whether these characters will take up a full slot or appear via Sessions, part of the game's combo system. This includes Tiki, the full-on Fire Emblem character, and Fortuna president Maiko Shimazaki.
We knew there would be some new content, but it's exciting to hear that additional story content is coming to Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore alongside costumes and music. It's an excellent RPG in its own right, blending Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei systems together into a bright, lively adventure.
Nintendo recently issued a statement that all versions of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will use the Western localization, which removed a number of scenes and altered others, though most of the changes are fairly benign. It's also worth noting that the actual developers of the game said the changes don't destroy their vision.
"This optimization does not destroy the identity of what we as developers want to convey. Developers would not accept such drastic changes," Nintendo's Hitoshi Yamagami told GameSpot in 2016. "The changes made during localization are optimizations intended to bring to as many customers as possible the things that we want to convey. No major changes are made that would change what we want to convey."
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore hits the Nintendo Switch on January 17, 2020.
