Torchlight 3 is getting its full launch, with console versions on the way. The former Torchlight spinoff turned Torchlight sequel, is exiting Early Access next month.
While it originally started out as Torchlight Frontiers, that project soon became a fully fledged sequel to Torchlight 2. "During development, you often discover what type of product a game was meant to be and we found Torchlight Frontiers was meant to be a true successor to Torchlight 1 and 2," Echtra Games CEO Max Schaefer said at the time.
Following an Early Access launch this summer, Torchlight 3 is going into full launch on Oct. 13, 2020. Alongside a Steam launch, Torchlight 3 will also be coming to PS4 and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version is on the way too, though that will arrive later this year. Early Access players will get access to the full version at launch as well, and every platform gets its own exclusive Fairy pet.
The original Torchlight and its sequel posed some interesting competition to the dominance of Diablo. Rather than a dark fantasy world, Torchlight has been a little more steampunk, with characters like the Railmaster who use machinery and gadgets.
There are four classes in the base Torchlight 3 launch: Dusk Mage, Forged, Railmaster, and Sharpshooter, each with their own Relics to upgrade and evolve as well. With a new Diablo game still seemingly a ways off, Torchlight 3 might be the thing to quench the need for crawling dungeons and hoarding loot.
