There's a new hero shooter in town. Or at least, that's according to one job posting for Creative Assembly's new, unannounced IP, indicating it will involve hero characters and cosmetics.
A posting for Lead Hero Designer - New IP on Creative Assembly's job board indicates their upcoming game will be a first-person shooter with hero elements or characters classes. It's essential this hiree has a "detailed understanding" of hero/class-based shooters, and ensure the development of characters with a "range of amazing thought and play provoking specialties."
The posting also notes that the potential employee will provide guidance on visual design and cosmetics, and that a "broad understanding" of monetization, rewards, and art production would be helpful for the role. All of this sounds very Overwatch-y to me, but that's the modern trend. This role could just as easily serve on Apex Legends, so it's hard to glean anything meaningful beyond Creative Assembly's focus on individual characters rather than nameless combatants.
Creative Assembly is well-known for their Total War games, like Total War: Three Kingdoms or 2018's Total War Saga: Throne of Britannia. The series was more recently in the news for a review bombing of Total War: Rome 2 over the inclusion of female generals. A hero shooter seems a little out of their ballpark. But considering previous job postings pointed towards sci-fi, stealth, and multiplayer, this might veer more towards an Alien: Isolation follow-up, but your guess is as good as mine. Multiplayer Alien game? I'd be down.
